Due to Covid-19 aviation worldwide facing the worst turbulence of all times, Mao Havannall, Secretariat for Civil Aviation (SSCA) on Monday said that the new Siem Reap International Airport is on schedule and all work will be completed by 2023.
He said this during the meeting with Angkor International Airport Investment (Cambodia) Co Ltd (AIAI) board chairman Lu Wei. “AIAI will continue to receive support from the SSCA to speed up the construction of the airport due to the close relations between Cambodia and China,” He added.
The construction of the new Siem Reap International Airport started earlier in March this year that will run up to next 3 years and is scheduled to be fully completed by early 2023.
The new airport is being built on a 750 hectares area in Sotr Nikum district east of Siem Reap town at a cost of $880 million. The project will be completed in three phases.
AIAI has been working closely with an SSCA technical team in the construction of the project and have agreed to a monthly meeting on the status of the project.
SSCA spokesman Sin Chansereyvutha said the airport will be able to handle 10 million passengers in 2030 and 20 million by 2050.
