Vietnam to Ease Travel Restrictions for China, South Korea & Japan

On Thursday (June 18), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Vietnam is looking to ease the restrictions on entry of foreign visitors from China, South Korea and Japan into the country.

Mr. Le Thi Thu Hang, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, said in his statement that the resumption of travel must be based on strict disease prevention measures.

He further said that the country is intending to initially allow only business visitors and skilled personnel returning to enter for work and Vietnam nationals should also be able to travel and work in these countries.

Around 1,000 China nationals will enter into Vietnam this month by train to work at an industrial park in the central province of Quang Ngai, according to media report. These workers will be quarantined for 14 days upon arrival.

Vietnam had suspended all domestic and international passenger flight operations along with its border closure since March 25 to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

In regards to COVID-19 transmission in Vietnam, the country has reported 342 confirmed cases which are in stable condition, 325 complete recoveries and no death caused by virus, as of Friday (June 19).

Moreover, Vietnam resumed economic activity earlier than many other countries in the region as the country has not recorded any new local transmission of COVID-19 in the last 2 months.
