Mount Sumbing, also known as Gunung Sumbing, located at Central Java in Indonesia is scheduled to be reopened to local hikers from August 1, 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the reopening of the mountain’s Garung Hiking Trail currently in its trial phase.
The entry to the base camp of the mountain will open to visitors every day from 8 am to 5 pm. The Management of attraction has also decided to limit the number of visitors to only 250 hikers in a day.
Lilik Setiyawan, coordinator of the Mount Sumbing Management Forum, has informed that all travelers will need to contact the management staff via WhatsApp at +6285226492745 to obtain a hiking permit.
Mount Sumbing management has also implemented the “new normal” protocol for hikers, in a bid to minimize the risk and chance of spread of COVID-19. All hikers will be required to strictly follow the “new normal” protocol as listed below:
- Hikers should be at least 17 years old or older and bring their ID cards.
- Hikers should carry their own hand sanitizer.
- Hikers should bring their own food and beverage equipments.
- Each hiker should carry four masks, to wear each for a maximum of four hours.
- Hikers should always wear masks in public places and when interacting with others.
- The distance between tents must be at least 1.5 meters.
- The tent can only hold 50% of its capacity. For instant, a four-person tent can only accommodate two persons.
- Hikers should wash their hands with soap and running water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Hikers should bring a health certificate issued by a hospital, health institution, clinic or community health center (Puskesmas), no more than three days before the hike.
